Faith Baptist Church
Margate, Florida
"They ceased not to teach and
preach Jesus Christ."
History
Faith Baptist Church was founded in 1969 through the ministry of Dr. Richard Schermerhorn. Faith Christian School(renamed Faith Baptist Academy in 2014) began as a Christian day school and ministry of Faith Baptist Church in 1973 and eventually extended into high school.
Dr. Schermerhorn retired in 2005 and Bill Gorman became the pastor. That same year, in October, hurricane Wilma roared across Florida and caused extensive damages to both church and school buildings. The church building was unusable and declared unsafe. The church started meeting in a large tent on the property; the school was dispersed and classes were held in various locations in the Margate area.
God used several churches and individuals to help restore our buildings. Many donated time and money, and their love and care to get us back. We had a lot of good old-fashioned prayer meetings as God, by his grace, brought us through.
By 2007 the church was able to return inside and start holding services in a partially repaired cafeteria. In 2008 we were able to return to the beautifully renovated church auditorium. The school continues to grow, and classes have resumed in the newly renovated classrooms.
Faith Baptist Church continues to stand on "the old paths" (Jeremiah 6:16). We stand firmly on the King James Bible, separation from worldliness, the old time hymns, soul-winning, spiritual families, and strong preaching. We are fully Baptist in doctrine and polity.
